New Zealand skipper Tom Latham expressed respect for India’s resilience even after leading his team to a historic 3-0 Test series victory on Indian soil, becoming the first visiting side to accomplish the feat. The Black Caps secured wins in Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai, completing a dominant whitewash against Rohit Sharma’s side.
Despite the historic feat, Latham acknowledged India’s stature in world cricket and emphasized that despite the defeat, the team remained a formidable force. “Indian cricket in general is really special. We’ve played against them a lot. The guys play with them at the IPL. They were certainly gracious in defeat and they’re still a quality side,” Latham said after the team’s return from India.
“They certainly don’t become a bad team overnight, and I’m sure they’ll turn things around in time,” he added, showing confidence in India’s ability to bounce back.
The victory was particularly sweet for New Zealand, as it came on the heels of a 0-2 Test series defeat against Sri Lanka just weeks earlier.
Reflecting on the contrasting fortunes, Latham said, “When we were in Sri Lanka a few weeks ago, things didn’t necessarily go our way. So, I think it makes these times extra special when you’re able to achieve something that hasn’t been achieved before.”
