Police search for driver who crashed truck in Dedham after chase on I-95

A truck fleeing police crashed off a ramp while exiting Interstate 95, leading to a large search in Dedham and Needham, Massachusetts, Thursday after the driver fled the vehicle, officials said.

The truck, a tractor-trailer, stopped on Needham Street in Dedham, near the town line with Needham and Cutler Park Reservation, Dedham police said. They were searching along with Massachusetts State Police.

A large police presence was seen in the area Thursday afternoon. Officers, including a police dog, were seen searching a marshy area around train tracks — the MBTA Commuter Rail runs through Cutler Park.

State police said their officers had been chasing the truck after it was spotted driving erratically on a Norwood on-ramp to I-95 north at about 12:45 p.m. The truck didn’t stop for officers, eventually exiting at Great Plain Avenue in West Roxbury, then crashing.

The driver wasn’t found, but a state police spokesman said in a statement that “video from the area provided important information allowing the search to conclude.”

Dedham police said they believed the person they were looking for had left the area.

The truck is also wanted in Canton, whose police department told state police that it was wanted over an incident that caused property damage Thursday.
