DENVER (KDVR) — The stage is set in Boston to award the first – and only – 4 Nations Face-Off champion: Canada vs. USA.

Over 10 million viewers across North America watched Saturday’s first matchup between the two nations, and on Thursday, they will rematch in the championship game.

So, why is this tournament so successful? Colorado Sports Night chatted with Jesse Montano from Guerilla Sports on the importance of this matchup.

“When it comes to hockey, the U.S. has always been the little brother to Canada. They have some of the top players in the league. And when it comes to best-on-best competition, Canada has always been one step ahead,” Montano said.

“Well, this is the first year where USA hockey really feels like they have the better team. I think it sets up to be a really interesting game. Canada, wanting to get some revenge and show that they are still the big brother – top hockey country in the world,” Montano continued.

“And the U.S. trying to make a name for themselves. And you cannot overlook what’s happened both politically – between the Canadian crowds booing the U.S. National Anthem due to the conversations around tariffs and 51st state. This has led to some real animosity between the fan bases in Canada and the U.S. And I think it’s just added to the drama. And it’s exactly what the NHL was hoping for,” Montano said.

You can watch Colorado Sports Night every weeknight on Colorado’s CW2 at 11 p.m. and live on KDVR+.
