Police and fire crews cordoned off part of New Market Street, in Wigan
A person was cut free from a car after ploughing into a tree in a dramatic crash in Wigan in the early hours of Thursday morning (February 20).
Police and fire crews cordoned off part of New Market Street, in Wigan, at around 2.05am. The B5375 was closed in both directions between Market Street and the B5376 Northway.
The road was closed for a number of hours with local traffic impacted throughout the morning. It was later confirmed one person was rescued from a car and taken to hospital from the scene.
Their injuries are not thought to be serious or life-threatening, according to GMP. Fire crews also remained at the scene to help rescue the casualty before they were treated by paramedics.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service said: “Two fire engines from Wigan fire station and the Enhanced Rescue Unit from Leigh fire station quickly arrived at the scene, where a car had collided with a tree.
“Crews helped to remove one person from the vehicle and passed them into the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service. Crews were at the scene for roughly 20 minutes.”
