Police release statement after major road closed throughout the night


Emergency services were called to Longsight Road in Holcombe Brook at 5pm yesterday and shut the road both ways throughout the night.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 5pm last night (Thursday 20 February), emergency services responded to reports of a concern for welfare on Longsight Road, Ramsbottom.

“Sadly, a man was found deceased at the scene.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.”

All three emergency services were called to the scene with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirming that the incident was in relation to someone being ‘rescued from water’.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have this morning confirmed that a man’s body was found at the scene in a concern for welfare incident.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The road reopened this morning after having been shut from  Longsight Road both ways from Brandlesholme Road to Vernon Road.
