Emi Martinez was replaced by Robin Olsen at half-time in Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace
Aston Villa have suffered a fresh blow as Emi Martinez came off in the first half of their clash with Crystal Palace.
The goalkeeper was replaced at half-time by Robin Olsen, who is making only his second league appearance of the campaign.
Martinez conceded in the 29th minute when he parried Chris Richards’ header across his goal to where Ismaila Sarr tapped in.
The Argentine then made a strong stop to deny the winger what would have been his and Palace’s second of the night.
Villa thought they restored parity just before the break when Ollie Watkins assisted Morgan Rogers, but the striker was deemed to be offside by VAR when he cut the ball back.
Emery should give an update on Martinez after full-time in his post-match press conference.
Villa will host Cardiff City in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday evening, before facing Club Brugge in Belgium next Tuesday.
Emery’s side will play at Brentford on Saturday, March 8 before then entertaining Brugge for the second leg of the round of 16 Champions League tie.
