School buses have been cancelled in Windsor-Essex on Thursday, the service provided has announced.
A notice of the cancellation was posted at 5:11 a.m. by buskids.ca.
“Area A — City of Windsor — All Board Provided Transportation is Cancelled for the day. Area B — County of Essex — All Board Provided Transportation is Cancelled for the day,” the notice reads.
A freezing drizzle advisory is in effect for Windsor, Leamington and Essex County, and this is believed to be the reason for the cancellation.
Environment Canada says freezing drizzle mixed with light snow is expected this morning. Any snow and freezing drizzle will come to an end near noon.
The federal weather agency says surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice.
Environment Canada says people should take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
