Tributes have been paid to the Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, who has died at the age of 65 after suffering from pneumonia.
His ex-girlfriend, the singer Cher, described him as ‘funny, crazy… and a great friend’, while the director Frances Ford Coppola said he had been a “joy to know”.
Kilmer became a household name with roles in blockbusters like Batman Forever and Top Gun.
He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but recovered sufficiently to return to the screen.
