Body discovered on Lake Erie shoreline near Port Bruce | CBC News


Elgin County OPP are investigating after a body was found along the Lake Erie shoreline near Port Bruce on Saturday.

Police were called to Waneeta Beach after a member of the public found a dead individual on the shore.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been made public.

“We’re working in conjunction with the coroner’s office and the forensic pathology service, so it’s impossible for me to say exactly when the identity will be determined, but our teams are working on it,” said Const. Brett Phair. “Whenever there’s an update to be provided to that effect, we’ll do so.”

The investigation is ongoing, and police said there is no risk to public safety.

Police search for missing Fanshawe College student near Port Stanley

It has now been more than a month since a Fanshawe College student was last seen in a remote area east of Port Stanley.

Nidhau Muktadir, 20, was reported missing by London police on Dec. 4, 2024. She was last seen the day before near Hawk Cliff Road and Dexter Line near the Lake Erie shoreline.

OPP have been leading the search for Muktadir, deploying their emergency response team, aviation, canine, and marine units.

“The missing person investigation remains ongoing for Nidhua Muktadir,” said Phair Friday. “An extensive and exhaustive search in the area of Hawks Cliff was conducted in relation to the investigation until Mid-December.”

Phair said that investigation continues with the assistance of the Elgin OPP Crime Unit.
