Thousands more electric vehicle chargers will be rolled out.

Everyone who drives an electric vehicle (EV) will have more chargers to access, with thousands more to be rolled out in the West Midlands.

Charging capacity is being ramped up in the region ahead of the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel cars which will slowly start to move everyone towards electric vehicles.

West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker has announced another 10,000 connection points will be installed.

There are already over 4,000 charging points available in the West Midlands.

There are also plans for almost 200 charging points at nine ‘ultra-fast filling stations’ where drivers will be able to power their vehicles with 100 miles or range in less than 15 minutes.

It comes as industry figures attempt to ease concerns among Brits over the switch to electric cars, with common worries relating to charging times and battery range.

The Mayor said: “The West Midlands is the beating heart of the UK car industry and I want us to lead the charge into a new era of electrification.

“Our roadside EV charging network is already one of the fastest-growing in the country, but I’m not stopping there.
