A 44-year-old Boston man has been arrested after allegedly slamming his vehicle into a Mass State Police cruiser multiple times, according to police.
Keion Rowell was taken into custody on Tuesday following last week’s incident near the Jackson Square Orange Line station — when he allegedly used his vehicle to ram a State Police cruiser and then fled on foot.
The trooper in the rammed cruiser was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Rowell is now being charged with: assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; reckless operation of a motor vehicle; leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury; trafficking in cocaine; and driving with a suspended license.
Shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, State Police troopers deployed a “Star Chase tracking device” on a vehicle that failed to stop in Boston.
“Star Chase technology is currently being piloted by the State Police with the goal of de-escalating and avoiding dangerous pursuits,” State Police said. “… Troopers with proper training deploy the device and use built in location technology to pursue individuals who evade police on the roads and could do further harm in the community.”
Troopers later tracked down the vehicle to Boston’s Thwing Street — a dead end near the Jackson Square Orange Line station.
As the first trooper approached the vehicle in his cruiser, the suspect allegedly rammed the police cruiser several times with his vehicle, exited, and fled on foot.
Troopers reportedly found trafficking weight narcotic evidence at the scene, and identified the suspect.
Members of the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, Troop H Community Action Team, Troop H Tunnels Barracks, Randolph Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service Massachusetts Task Force arrested Rowell in Randolph on Tuesday.
