Former TV host Ellen DeGeneres has shared a jaw-dropping look at the view from her home in the Cotswolds, months after relocating from the US to the UK.
The lesbian star, who hosted The Ellen DeGeneres Show in America between 2003 and 2022, moved to the UK’s idyllic Cotswolds region in late 2024 with her wife, Arrested Development actress Portia de Rossi.
The couple left their home in Montecito, California, and purchased the £15 million ($18 million) farmhouse in England following Donald Trump’s election win back in November.
DeGeneres and de Rossi joined a list of other stars who left the US around the Republican president’s election win, including comedian Rosie O’Donnell, musician Courtney Love and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longaria.
In August, DeGeneres shared her hope that Democrat hopeful Kamala Harris would win the election, writing on Instagram: “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come, I can’t wait for Kamala Harris to be our next president.”
It appears that despite the circumstances surrounding their US departure, the couple are enamoured with their life in the UK. Earlier this week, DeGeneres shared a stunning look at the view from outside their home and described herself as “happy”.
The photo, shared with DeGeneres’ 136 million Instagram followers, shows de Rossi standing with her back to the camera, capturing a photo of a shining double rainbow against grey clouds.
De Rossi, dressed in black gym wear, is standing on huge paving slabs that are laid over pebbles in what appears to be the couple’s sprawling green garden. There’s a covered pool in front of De Rossi, and acres of land and trees stretching out beyond their house.
She wrote in the post: “3 things that make me happy: My Wife. A Rainbow. And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow.”
Their opulent farmhouse is reportedly set within 43 acres of gardens, and lined by paddocks and fields. The six bedroom residence also reportedly boasts a gym, an indoor pool, a guest cottage and an orchard.
The pair’s move to the Cotswolds began tumultuously, with DeGeneres having to deny fan worries that her home had been affected by flooding in the Cotswolds area.
In February, there were reports that they were considering leaving the property after locking horns with locals over a single-story extension built on their land.
Local parish councillors were reportedly concerned the building work could disrupt historic Roman ruins nearby their property, while residents were allegedly worried that “the hedge and wire fence could increase flood risk in the village” if rubbish was swept down and “caught on the fence”.
However, according to her latest post, they seem more than thrilled with British countryside living
DeGeneres reportedly chose to move to the UK instead of elsewhere due to her hope to continue her comedy career.
“Ellen wants to continue with her comedy work, and there is a huge scene in Britain,” a source said back in December. “Sitting back and chilling on a beach in Australia is for when she’s ready to retire. Ellen’s not there yet.”
At the end of 2024, the comic released her Netflix special Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, her first major body of work since her controversial talk show came to an end.
