Extreme cold warning in effect for southern Manitoba | CBC News

Freezing temperatures are expected in southern Manitoba this Saturday, with Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasting a wind chill making it feel near –40 C.

The colder temperatures will moderate throughout the southern region on Saturday for areas including Brandon, Neepawa, Virden, Pilot Mound, Minnedosa and Riding Mountain National Park, the weather agency said in a weather alert.

The extreme cold warning has been lifted for areas such as Dauphin, Russell, Roblin and Winnipegosis.

An extreme drop in temperatures puts everyone at risk and people out in the cold should watch for symptoms related to the weather such as shortness of breath, chest and muscle pain, weakness, numbness and a change in colour for fingers and toes, Environment and Climate Change Canada said.

The agency encourages people to seek shelter from the wind, dress in multiple layers of clothing and to keep moving your body to produce heat and stay warm while outdoors.
