The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) homicide unit is investigating the death of a man Saturday evening near the city’s Chinatown neighbourhood.

Emergency responders were called to Primrose Avenue E. near Arthur Street around 7:20 p.m. Saturday, police said in a news release later that night.

Officers found a man with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital but died shortly after, police said.

On Sunday afternoon, police identified the victim as Paul Scott Landymore, 63, of Ottawa.

An Ottawa paramedics spokesperson confirmed several paramedic units were on the scene Saturday night and took one adult to the trauma centre.

The incident occurred inside an apartment unit, said OPS Sgt. Seth Curtis.

“There is an increase in police presence in the area,” Curtis said Sunday afternoon. “Based on our investigation today, we believe that this is an isolated incident and there is no broader threat to the community.”

6th homicide of 2025

As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, police said.

“The investigation is very early in its stages. We’re continuing to gather evidence, analyze leads and speak to potential witnesses,” Curtis added.

Landymore’s killing marks the city’s sixth homicide of the year.

This time last year, there had only been two homicide cases, according to Curtis — one being the Barrhaven mass killings in March 2024.

Police are asking anyone with information about Saturday night’s homicide to contact the homicide unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5493.
