Police have blocked off area at homeless encampment in Thunder Bay, Ont.’s south side | CBC News


The Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) is holding the scene of an early-morning tent fire at a homeless encampment at Kam River Park off Simpson Street.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue says firefighters responded to the scene around 4 a.m. ET on Wednesday. 

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire using a hand line, the fire department said in a news release.

Emergency medical services attended the scene, and two people were taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for medical evaluation.

The TBPS is investigating. The fire damage was limited to one tent.

“Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds the public to use heating sources safely — keep heaters, candles and open flames away from flammable materials, and never leave them unattended,” the fire department said in its news release.
