LA MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man was arrested Sunday after a morning standoff with police lasted a few hours.

City of La Mesa Police were called to a home in the 4800 block of Harbinson in La Mesa for a welfare check. When officers arrived, they reported seeing a man standing outside holding what appeared to be a rifle before heading back inside the home.

After officers found the man also had a felony warrant for his arrest, they called in the Special Response Team (SRT) and called the other occupants in the house outside. A helicopter and K-9 team also assisted at the scene.

Police later found the firearm was actually a BB gun, but did say an illegal firearm was also found in the home.

The suspect, 52-year-old Ruben Zamaro, was arrested around noon and booked into County Jail. He is facing warrant and weapons-related charges, La Mesa Police say.
