Unvaccinated and exposed to measles? Leamington hospital has a vaccine clinic Friday | CBC News

Erie Shores HealthCare will hold a measles vaccine clinic Friday for anyone who is unvaccinated and has been exposed to the virus.

The clinic will be at the Leamington hospital, located at 194 Talbot St. W., and available from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In a news release, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) said that it strongly recommends people who were exposed at the Erie Shores Walk-in Clinic this week get “a dose of vaccine to help prevent a measles infection before the end of day Friday.”

The health unit says the exposure happened at the clinic, on 33 Princess Street in Leamington, between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the main building entrance and waiting room.

When you arrive at the Erie Shores HealthCare vaccine clinic, you are asked to call the emergency department before entering at (519) 326 -2373 and press 4400. The health unit says this is important so that the hospital can limit exposure to others.

The WECHU also said that for anyone exposed to measles who is pregnant, immunocompromised or has a child 12 months of age or younger, they should contact the health unit as soon as possible to confirm if there are other treatments available.

If you are unvaccinated, have symptoms or been exposed, you can also contact your family doctor or call in to an urgent care clinic for more information.
