An 11-year-old girl is in life-threatening condition after she was struck by a bus in Mississauga Thursday afternoon, police say.

Peel Regional Police received a call at 2:30 p.m. that a girl had been struck by a MiWay transit bus in front of Lisgar Middle School, Const. Tyler Bell confirmed in an email.

The girl was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, Bell said. He says emergency workers are working on transferring her to the Hospital for Sick Children.

The driver and the bus remained on scene, he said.

Lisgar Drive, in front of the middle school, is closed between Beacham and Dillingwood drives, Bell said.

A spokesperson for the City of Mississauga, which manages MiWay, said in an email that the transit agency is co-operating with a Peel Regional Police investigation of the incident.

“Our thoughts are with the pedestrian and their family during this difficult time,” spokesperson Irene McCutcheon said in the email.
