RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Rensselaer County Legislature is proposing a new resolution to revisit and revoke the operating permit of the controversial Dunn Landfill. If adopted, the resolution would request that the New York Department of Environmental Conservation and Gov. Kathy Hochul reconsider their December 2024 permit renewal for the landfill.
The proposed resolution cites truck traffic, offensive odors, debris in the air, and being close to the Rensselaer City School District as concerns raised by residents and other local officials. Copies of the resolution will be forwarded to state and local officials to push for immediate action.
NEWS10 reached out to the DEC for comment. They said in-part, “DEC will continue to closely monitor operations at the Dunn Landfill to ensure the facility fully complies with all permit conditions, laws and regulations.”
NEWS10 also reached out to the Rensselaer Environmental Coalition for comment. We are waiting to hear back.
