A powerful coronal hole high-speed stream was expected to create a dazzling display
An amber alert has been issued for the Northern Lights, meaning lucky Brits could be in with a chance of seeing the beautiful sky display.
A powerful coronal hole high-speed stream was expected to create a dazzling display tonight (Thursday, February 13).
Aurora Watch has put out an amber alert, which means the lights were “likely to be visible by eye” in parts of Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland.

It’s also possible the light would be seen elsewhere in the UK, but it does depend on weather conditions.
The Mirror reports that tonight’s conditions could mean those living in areas where the aurora is could struggle due to cloudy conditions.
Meteorologists have said once the aurora hits, people would have a “few nights” to see it, so there could be more opportunities this weekend.
The Met Office said: “Periods of enhanced aurora are possible due to ongoing fast solar winds.
“Northern regions [of the UK] have further chances to see the aurora over the next few nights.”
“Cloudy skies mean limited view opportunities for most of us, but with clearer skies in northern and western Scotland, there’s a much better chance here.”
The agency has predicted rain will roll over the Midlands and northern England accompanied by “wintry flurries” on Thursday, Friday, and into the weekend.
