Pakistan will have upper hand over India in Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammad Amir

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir feels Pakistan will have the upper hand over India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India and Pakistan are all set to lock horns in the biggest game of the mega event on February 23 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. India have dominated Pakistan historically in ICC events having lost just once against them in their World Cup history.

However, Pakistan hold the upper hand in Champions Trophy history, having beaten India thrice out of five matches. Recently, Amir shared his views on the upcoming blockbluster clash between the two teams and mentioned how Pakistan’s recent series victories in Australia and South Africa give them the edge over India who’ve been going through a torrid time due to their recent losses.

Champions Trophy 2025 India Squad Announcement Live Updates

“The way Pakistan has played recently — defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa — shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. However, India has always been my favorite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats,” Amir was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Further speaking ahead, the former fast bowler also commented on the reports of Bumrah’s unavailability during the tournament, saying that the Indian bowling attack would be reduced to 40-50 percent without him.

“It will be a huge loss to India if Bumrah isn’t there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength,” he added.

Question marks over Bumrah’s participation in the Champions Trophy

Bumrah suffered an injury during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney and rested himself midway through the first innings. India Today has learnt that Bumrah has been asked to visit the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Sources privy to the matter have stated that Bumrah might be named in the provisional Champions Trophy squad, but the final call will be taken on the basis of his recovery.
