The actress played Hogwarts witch Hermione Granger in all eight films of the franchise alongside co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.
Ms Watson has turned her attention to studies after her iconic role in J.K. Rowling’s series as well as parts in Hollywood films The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Little Women.
The 34-year-old has been studying a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford since September 2023 but now is said to have progressed to a DPhil which is Oxford’s version of a PhD.
This is according to national reports which state Ms Watson is now aiming to become a doctor with the course lasting three years in total.
A source at the university told Mail Online: “She mingles among other students, and blends into the background. But she does attend social events and is often spotted with her books and her boyfriend at local coffee shops.
“She started last year – she loves Oxford and has made a happy life for herself there.”
A statement from the University of Oxford says: “The term ‘DPhil’ stands for ‘Doctor of Philosophy’, sometimes referred to as a ‘doctorate’ or ‘PhD’.”
Ms Watson made a surprise public appearance over the Atlantic at the 2025 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in Oakland, California on Friday, February 14.
In a TikTok video uploaded to ESPN’s main account on Valentine’s Day, she spoke with EDM musician Tucker Halpern who was playing in the game.
