Traffic in York: ‘Do we need a congestion charge like London?’

Traffic in York: ‘Do we need a congestion charge like London?’

OFTEN I speak proudly of our beautiful city and yet I have to admit that a big blight on York is the heavy traffic blocking our streets and polluting our air.

What can we do?

A congestion charge as in London?

Banning all but essential motorised vehicles from the city centre?

Too many road works all at once

WHY are there so many roadworks in York at the same time?

Especially in the last three weeks there have been roadworks at every corner of York, leaving no escape roads.

To be honest, car traffic is less but, because of roadworks, it has become a real pain for everyone.

I would understand if it is an urgent matter but none of them are.

The person responsible for planning of roadworks should be retired.

Row over a new logo for North Yorkshire

AS a proud holder of an ‘O’ Level in art I feel well qualified to assess the new York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority logo.

I don’t know what’s the ‘logoing’ rate for such designs but 31 ‘grand’ seems a lot for the reinvention of noughts and crosses.

To reduce this cost almost to the point of elimination the authority should have asked The Press to arrange a readers’ competition.

In the meantime, I think the authority is wasting its time entering the new logo for the Turner Prize.

Sorry, but that’s how I feel.

Oh, and by the way, there needs to be a motto. All the best mottoes are in Latin, so perhaps scholarly readers with a classical bent might like to give some thought (not too much, mind) to ‘Nobbut just’, ‘Owt for nowt’ and ‘Ee by gum!’

Warning: be sure to read the small print: ‘Latin mottoes 10 per cent surcharge’.

I notice the omission of a white rose but that has been used before.

….THE new logo for York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority costing £ 31,860 is outrageous – they simply could have asked the children at St Wilfred’s school (other schools are available) to design a new York and North Yorkshire logo.

Having recently asked for pupils to design a logo for the schools’ 150 year anniversary, the resulting winner of the competition has the design displayed on the school building.

Why didn’t the authority ask all the relevant schools in the area to design a logo and put them forward for a public vote?

American nightmare

AFTER President Trump’s speech to Congress, Americans will have woken up to realise they freely voted into office the nation’s first dictator.

Also, publicly producing a letter from the King inviting Trump to a state visit was but a cheap political stunt by Starmer, purely designed to ingratiate himself with the President.

I bet King Charles and Queen Camilla can’t wait to entertain such a deluded, arrogant, self opinionated guest to their home.

And why is Parliament not insisting Starmer explains in more detail why we are giving away the Chagos islands and then paying a friend of China £9n for the privilege. He refuses to explain his reasoning claiming it is not in the nations interest to do so, this suggests to many it could be the opposite, he is trying to cover up an embarrassingly ridiculous deal.
