Steak restaurant most popular in ‘record’ York Restaurant Week


Three days into the event, York BID reported 14,292 vouchers have been downloaded before they are used in the venues.

Business manager Chris Bush told the Press: “We are on target to beat the record set during the previous event in October 2024, which saw 22,500 vouchers downloaded worth a monetary value of just under £400,000.”

York BID research says the ten restaurant weeks delivered so far have generated an economic boost of £1.8million, with this month’s event expected to push the total to well over £2 million.

Some 124 business are taking part in the current restaurant week, with 254 collective offers on food and drink, making York Restaurant Week on of the largest events of its kind in UK.

York BID has released a list of the most popular restaurant offers, based on the number of downloads for the deal, with each of the top ten all enjoying hundreds of downloads.

Top is Miller & Cater, which opened last summer in the former post office at 22 Lendal, and is now offering a two-course set menu for £20.

Second is Marzano Italian Grill in Fossgate, in the former Lock Fyne restaurant, which is offering a three-course set menu for £25.

Third is Ate O’Clock in High Ousegate, who has two courses for £15,

The rest of the top ten are: York Minster Refectory (4 Course Tasting Menu – £30pp), Blue Barbakan (evening deal £20pp); Heavenly Desserts (Dessert For 1 – £5pp), Dough Eyed (House Pizza & Soft Drink – £10pp ), Tomahawk Steakhouse (2 Course Set Menu – £20pp), Zaap Thai Street Food (Starter, Main & A Drink – £15pp) and Enoteca By L’UVA (3 Course Set Menu – £20pp).

Marcus Exelby at York Minster Refectory reports a ‘fantastic’ response to their promotion.

He told the Press: “Tonight we have 103 people booked for dinner which is pretty wild for Thursday. This is double last year.

“The refectory has been open two years and a lot of people have not triend us yet. It’s a chance for them to without breaking the bank. It’s fantastic.”

Nataniel Zerominski at the Blue Barbakan says the restaurant is doing well from the event.

He told the Press: “We have had a lot more people coming in than usual.”

A spokesperson for Zaap Thai Street Food also said business was good with the restaurant week helping deliver a ‘busy’ Tuesday and Wednesday.

A staff member at Marzano agreed the event is driving traffic into the restaurant.
