The M6 in Merseyside is closed northbound between J22 (Winwick) and J23 (Haydock Island) due to a serious road traffic collision.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that emergency services are on the M6 following a serious collision this evening, Monday 28 April.
“At around 9.10pm, officers were called to between Junctions 22 and 23 Northbound at Haydock to reports of a collision involving three vehicles. NWAS and MFRS are also on the scene and injuries are being assessed.
“A closure is currently in place on the slip road onto the M6 from Junction 22 and between Junctions 22 and 23 in both directions.
“Please avoid the area and thank you for your patience while we deal with the incident.”
Emergency services are in attendance and are being assisted by National Highways Traffic Officers.
The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours for collision investigation, recovery and clear-up work.

Road users are advised to follow the Solid Square diversion symbol on road signs.
Exit the M6 at J22
At the A579A572 junction turn right onto the A572 northbound
At the A572/B5207 junction turn left onto the B5207 northbound
At the B5207/A580 junction turn right onto the A580 westbound
At the A580/M6 junction turn left onto the Gyratory and take the 4th exit to re-join the M6
