Man charged with drunk and disorderly after alleged disturbance at Metrocentre


Officers were called to the shopping centre on Saturday (December 21) after being alerted to the reported incident shortly before 4.25pm. 

After arriving, a man was allegedly intoxicated and becoming aggressive – with officers then arresting a 24-year-old man in connection. 

Footage posted on social media showed several police officers and other staff on the floor of the shopping centre, while crowds of people watched on.

Bradley Colley, 24, of River View, Blackhall Mill, has since been charged with obstructing or resisting a police officer in execution of duty and drunk and disorderly. 

He has since been released on police bail and is set to appear before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on February 6, 2025. 

Northumbria Police has confirmed that enquiries are ongoing. 

A spokesperson said: “Shortly before 4.25pm on Saturday, December 21, we were alerted to a disturbance within the Metrocentre shopping centre in Gateshead.

“Officers attended the scene, where it was alleged a man was intoxicated and becoming aggressive.

“A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the report. He has since been charged with obstruct or resist a police officer in execution of duty, and drunk and disorderly.

“The man was released on police bail, and is scheduled to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside next year. Enquiries are ongoing.”
