The project aims to transform Lilybank Gardens, which is located near Hillhead subway station, into a “student-centred hub” with modern accommodation and accessible public spaces.
The site is owned by the university but is currently used as a car park which is managed by Glasgow City Council under a lease agreement.

The proposals state that the new accommodation “aims to address the shortage of the appropriate student housing close to campus”.
It says the development would support local businesses and enhance integration in the West End while also providing students with a better balance between “learning, earning and enjoying student life”.
The design aims to pay homage to historic tenements and townhouses which one stood on the site and would restore key frontages to Lilybank Gardens and Great George Lane.

Two public pre-application consultations will take place ahead of planning permission being submitted to the council.
Members of the public will be able to comment on the proposals at two public events which are set to take place on Monday, January 13 and February 10.
The events will take place from 3pm to 7pm on both days at the University of Glasgow Advanced Research Centre at 11 Chapel Lane.
