‘Prolific’ shoplifter jailed after 29 thefts over a year

Jason Wadsworth, aged 29, committed the spree over the course of 12 months in Farnworth.

Wadsworth, who is of no fixed abode, was found guilty of committing 29 shoplifting offences at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on January 3 this year.

Magistrates sentenced him to four months imprisonment.

Wadsworth was also given a Criminal Behaviour Order, which prevents him from entering a number of supermarket stores in Farnsworth and Kearsley.

The order was applied for by officers in the Bolton Neighbourhood Policing Team, which will last until 2028.

“His offending has blighted the local community for the last few years and he has caused ongoing issues for retail staff as well as for shoppers who were simply going about their daily business.

“As a team we have worked hard to only bring Wadsworth to justice but have robust structures in place following his release and we hope this can provide reassurance to the local community that we are doing all we can to deter criminality like this from occurring.

“The Criminal Behaviour Order comes from partnership work between Bolton’s Policing Team, Farnworth Retail Partnership and members of the public who have provided information that led to Wadsworth’s arrest.

“If anyone has any information about Wadsworth breaching the restrictions of the Criminal Behaviour Order, contact us on gmp.police.uk or alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
