Officers were called to a house on Victoria Road on Sunday (January 26) at around 5am following reports of a burglary in progress.

Police attended on immediate response and arrested two people at the scene, one of which had sustained an injury to his hand and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Durham Constabulary has now confirmed that James McStravick, 28, and Frank Park, 26, of Milner Road in Darlington, have since been charged with aggravated burglary.

They are both due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (January 27).

As previously reported, police erected a cordon outside of a flat on Victoria Road on Sunday following the alleged incident overnight.

Pictures from the scene showed police guarding the property, while crime scene investigators wearing blue gloves and masks were seen using torches inside.

Shattered glass was scattered across the pavement below the front door, with spatters of blood also visible on the door frame and the ground.
