Ever since the second series of Squid Game dropped on Netflix last week, all we’ve thought about is when season three will be released, and what it will have in store for us.
However, while we’re waiting for any details about that chilling cliffhanger and where Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) rollercoaster return to the games goes from here, TV bosses did speak out over one bizarre casting rumor concerning Leonardo DiCaprio.
Social media went wild with speculation that the Titanic actor, 50, had landed a surprise role in the upcoming final series of the gripping drama.
Things ramped up this week when a report by South Korean publication Osen claimed that he secretly filmed scenes last year – with all details kept under wraps so no spoilers got out.
According to the outlet, via the Tab, it was alleged that his ‘amount of screen time will not be long’, but no further details were shared.
A spokesperson for Netflix quickly poured ice cold water on the reports, telling Soompi: ‘The rumors are completely false. Reports of Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement in Squid Game Season 3 are entirely unfounded.’

We’re not entirely sure where the rumors first came from, or even why, but Leo randomly popping up to take on the tug-of-war, or having a go at the honeycomb challenge would make for iconic TV.
Hwang Dong-hyuk – who is behind the acclaimed series – was previously asked about the prospect of a Hollywood star making a cameo in upcoming episodes, and did jokingly mention the Oscar-winner.
During a 2022 appearance at a press conference in Seoul, he declared: ‘There will be no known Hollywood actor in Season 2.
‘That’s not in the plan and if the stage changes, maybe in Season 3 – but for Season 2, it is still set in Korea.

‘Leonardo DiCaprio did say he’s a big fan of Squid Game, so maybe if time or chances allow, we can ask him to join the games.’
Speaking to Variety at the SAG Awards that same year, Lee – who won the best actor trophy for his portrayal of Gi-hun in the first season – also named the superstar as the US actor he would most love to work with.
Season two of Squid Game was released on Netflix on Boxing Day, and broke huge viewing records almost immediately.

The final batch of episodes will premiere at some point this year – but we don’t have a confirmed release date just yet.
Teasing what to expect last year, the creator previously said: ‘The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season three, which will be brought to you next year.’
