The United Conservative Party caucus expelled Airdrie-Cochrane MLA Peter Guthrie on Wednesday, following his resignation from cabinet and his outspoken support for a full judicial public inquiry into the provincial government’s procurement practices.
In a news release Wednesday, caucus said they made the “difficult decision” to remove Guthrie.
“MLA Guthrie has made it clear that he does not support the government’s decision to wait for the investigations of both the auditor general and Judge Raymond Wyant to conclude prior to taking further action on the issue of AHS procurement practices and the allegations made by the former AHS CEO,” the statement reads.
“It is also clear that he wishes to continue to publicly voice his opposition to the government on that issue. We wish him well as he continues in his role as MLA for his constituency.”
Guthrie resigned from his position as infrastructure minister in late February. He was later barred from attending UCP caucus meetings as part of a 30-day probation period he was placed under in March.
More to come.
