SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Minimal rain activity has reached the region but more widespread shower coverage is expected for late Thursday into Friday as a weakening atmospheric river moves in off the coast.
Patchy drizzle to brief light rain has been reported in many areas in San Diego County with 12-hour totals between trace amounts to just a few hundredths an inch of rain.
Early Friday morning, between midnight and 10 a.m., an uptick of light scattered showers can be expected with North County favored to get a touch more precipitation. Showers should taper off from the northwest to the southeast but there will be periods of some light rain activity to round out the work week.
In total, the region may receive a tenth inch or less locally. Orange County will get a little bit more in the bucket with up to three-quarters an inch of rain for places like Anaheim.
It will be mostly cloudy and cool for Thursday and Friday, with daytime highs topping out in the low 60s for the coast and valleys, upper 40s in the mountains and mid 7’s in the deserts.
Dry conditions are setting up for the weekend but for the middle-to-end of next week, models are pointing to a better atmospheric river set up for Southern California, which could bring more rainfall to the area.
