A YOUNG girl has been knocked off her bike in the middle of a busy town centre road by a gang of youths.

Three young boys were witnessed by the girl’s father and several other members of the public as they ‘booted’ the little girl off her bike.

The incident occurred yesterday evening on Musselburgh High Street, a busy road with dozens of cars whizzing by.

The three youths immediately fled the scene after the girl fell from her new bike and onto the concrete road.

Witnesses described the attack as unprovoked with the girl allegedly having said nothing to the boys prior to being kicked from her bicycle.

She was left injured by the attack but not severely enough to need an ambulance, her brand-new bike was damaged in the fall.

Police responded after a member of the public called them and are looking into the incident in an attempt to identify the teen attackers.

The girl and her father were left helpless, being from Italy and having poor English, unsure of what to do or how to ask for help.

Police took the father and daughter home with them being left severely shaken by the random callous attack.

A witness said they had their opinions of Scottish youth lowered by the random attack and said: “This has made them form an opinion of young people in Scotland which is so sad because it’s not all of them.”

The three youths who attacked the girl were reportedly seen running and cycling away from the scene “laughing their heads off.”

The same witness went on to say: “This could have been so much worse it could have just taken one driver to not notice she was knocked down.

“Disgusting behaviour from the teenagers of Musselburgh.”

They added: “I phoned the police straight away and they are involved for CCTV etc! They took the girl and the dad home.

“It was over before we even realised what happened so literally couldn’t do anything the boys were away before we could even think to take photos of their faces or intervene.

“It’s all very well saying you should have done this and should have done that but it’s so fast when it’s happening you don’t even get the chance to think.

“We all just rushed to the girl struggling to get up on the road.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.20pm on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, we received a report that a young girl had been pushed off her bike in High Street, Musselburgh by a group of youths.

“Officers attended, the girl did not require any medical treatment. There was no trace of youths on arrival. Enquiries are ongoing.”
